Louisa Parry LogoIn January, we welcomed Louisa Parry, an Accredited Practising Dietitian to our practice. An Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) is an allied healthcare professional who are the most qualified to provided expert advice about dietary and nutritional needs, and are the only nutrition professionals recognised by the Australian Government and Medicare. An APD can assist in the management of medical conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, cancers, gastrointestinal diseases, food allergies, food intolerances, and disordered eating, and can also assist in optimising nutrition for people who are overweight and obese. Additionally, an APD can provide tailored advice to otherwise healthy people who have questions about optimising their diet. This can include advice on reading nutritional food labels, managing weight, planning balanced diets, understanding nutritional recommendations for vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients, choosing good options when eating out, and optimising sports performance. Services provided by an Accredited Practising Dietitian do not require a referral from a doctor, and private patients are eligible for rebate with most private health funds. A referral from your doctor is necessary if you wish to claim through Medicare and Department of Veteran Affairs.

Louisa will provide one-on-one consultations and deliver individualised and practical suggestions that are tailored to your nutritional needs, medical history, and personal goals. Additionally, Louisa can assist patients to understand the relationship between many medical conditions and diet. Louisa has a wide range of professional interests, including dietary management of weight concerns and healthy eating, diabetes, heart health, polycystic ovarian syndrome, bowel health (including inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac disease, diarrhoea and constipation, diverticular disorders, and irritable bowel disease), liver disorders, pregnancy and maternal health, and managing concerns about nutritional adequacy for people with osteoporosis, and vegan/vegetarians. We are excited to welcome Louisa to our team!
