Navigating Medicare can feel like learning a new language. You’ve finally got a handle on Parts A, B, C, and D, and then you hear a term like “accepting assignment”.
Let’s break it down.
What Does “Accepting Assignment” Actually Mean?
Think of Medicare as setting a standard benefit for a huge range of medical services. This is called Medicare Benefit Schedule (MBS) fee.
When a doctor bulk bills, it means that they accept the MBS fee as full payment for their services. They bill to Medicare directly, and you pay nothing out-of-pocket.
When your doctor bulk bills the consultation, a link will be sent via SMS to your phone number post-appointment.
- Click on the link
- Sign the form
- Submit
There is nothing further to be done.
What if I decline?
By declining, this means that you do not want the doctor to directly bill to Medicare. Therefore, our reception team will be in contact with you to pay for the full consultation fees.
