Protect your Health: Preparing for Flu Season in Perth

Flu, also commonly known as Influenza, is a common and highly contagious respiratory infection.

Possible Symptoms

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore Throat
  • Body Aches
  • Fatigue

What can you do prepare for flu season
  1. If you have any of the above symptoms, do your part! It is advisable to not go into work or school to prevent the spread into communities.
  2. If you need to cough or sneeze, use a tissue and not your hands. If you do use your hands, wash your hands with soap
  3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  4. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water
  5. Stay at home for at least 24 hours once the fever breaks, unless medical care is required
  6. Get plenty of sleep, drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious food
  7. Get your free flu shot

In Australia, peak influenza season happens from June to September. Queens Park Medical Centre has free flu vaccines available for 65 years and above. Call us on 08 9356 8993 for an appointment to your free flu shot.

For patients under 65 years old, in the month of May and June, free flu vaccines will be provided. Book now to not miss out on a slot by calling us on 08 9356 8993 or booking online.

Saturday Private Billing

To Our Valued Patients:

After much deliberation, we at Queens Park Medical Centre have deemed it necessary to introduce full private billing for Saturday appointments. This will take effect from 5th April. Previously bulk billed patients (children 15 and under, pension card holders, health care card holders, DVA card holders and Commonwealth Seniors card holders) and patients who hold an overseas student health cover with partnered insurance companies, will be expected to pay a minimum of $40 out of pocket gap fee.

This decision has not been made lightly and is largely because Medicare Rebates have not kept up with inflation and the rise in costs. Since 2018, Medicare rebates have increased on average by 1.3% annually whilst inflation has been at a much higher level.

We understand this may affect our patients. Therefore, we thank you for your ongoing support and trust that these changes will help us continue to provide you with quality healthcare. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions of concern.
